文森特·威廉·梵古（Vincent Willem van Gogh，1853－1890），
荷蘭後印象派畫家。他是表現主義的先驅，並深深影響了二十世紀藝術，
尤其是野獸派與德國表現主義。
梵古幾乎沒有受過什麼正規的繪畫訓練。
為弄到畫布、油彩和畫具而日復一日地奔波勞碌，
精神上也不斷處於矛盾的狀態，
為追求藝術的完美而承受著壓力。
梵古的作品，如《星夜》、《向日葵》與《有烏鴉的麥田》等，
現已擠身於全球最具名、廣為人知與昂貴的藝術作品的行列。
1890年7月29日，梵古終因精神疾病的困擾，
在美麗的法國瓦茲河畔結束了其年輕的生命，是年他才37歲。
他是個熱愛自然並能從簡單的事物看到純粹之美的畫家，
他說他寧可畫從窗戶向外看到的樹影而不想像中的美麗幻像。
